The Western Shelter system was designed to provide an easily transported, simple to erect, and, most importantly, weather-secure working environment for operations in remote locations. From the arctic to the tropics, the proven reliability of our designs, material, and construction has consistently exceeded customer expectations in the harshest of conditions.
Performance under these critical conditions has brought our Western Shelter product line to the attention of agencies and organizations in the fire, rescue, medical, military, and disaster response fields.
Since 1992, Western Shelter Systems has been a primary supplier of emergency response shelters for FEMA USAR, NDMS DMAT, CDC, federal, state, county, and municipal fire and police jurisdictions; as well as forest service, military, hospital, and industrial organizations. Our shelters can be found supporting government and private operations on every continent and in every corner of the globe.
Western Shelter System licensed the right to manufacture and distribute the original, basic octagon shelter and interlocking frame design in 1988 from John Matchung, a Canadian entrepreneur well-known for his innovative shelter designs.
Western Shelter Systems' license includes the exclusive right to manufacture and to distribute Matchung's shelter products worldwide, with the exception of Canada. The Matchung family, operating as Design Shelter, Incorporated, of Mississauga, Ontario, continue to manufacture and market their shelter products in Canada. Design Shelter also distributes many of Western Shelters' support products in Canada.
All product improvements made by Western Shelter to John Matchung's original octagon shelter design remain the exclusive property of Western Shelter Systems. These improvements have not been licensed for manufacture to any other shelter or tent manufacturer.
The GateKeeper brand was introduced in 2005 in response to requests from US public health and hospital emergency preparedness managers who wanted a Western Shelter system capable of medical isolation and negative/positive air pressurization. The resulting GateKeeper, without its isolation components, has become extremely popular with law enforcement, search and rescue, and other non-medical responders, because of its numerous operational improvements.
All shelter and logistical support equipment offered for sale by Western Shelter Systems is manufactured or assembled in the U.S. in its 83,000 square foot factory. Interested parties are welcome to request a factory tour, equipment demonstration, and quotation specification meeting.
